How to give depth in a photograph?

That’s an amazing piece of picture, but cannot help saying that itHow to give depth in a photograph needs to have a couple of more things added into it. The detailing is excellent – especially the ears and the trunk, but doesn’t the picture look a bit out of focus? If you take a close look at the body you would see that the head looks much bigger compared to the body. It is understood that no critical camera angles are involved in this case, but if you’re not able to show some kind of reference frame against the subject, it becomes really hard for the viewer to stop individuals of the photographer and view the subject with the same clarity.

The sky behind the elephant depicts vastness and so does the subject itself; at least a portion of the ground, a tree or a part of the elephant’s belly could have been made visible to give the picture more depth. A simple thing as making the eyes of the elephant visible would have also added more depth to the picture.
